9Lives returns to Finnish ownership – Vesa Ekroos appointed chairman of the board
9Lives is returning to its roots. The Finnish shareholders, who sold a majority of the company shares to Falck, an international provider of assistance, rescue, training and healthcare services in 2015, bought back all of the shares in 9Lives Group held by Falck in a deal signed today.
9Lives is now owned by the company's former Managing Director Markus Ulfstedt (share of ownership 86%) and Katariina Matveinen (14%), who has served as Managing Director since the beginning of the year. Matveinen will remain Managing Director and Ulfstedt will serve as a member of the company board of directors.
"While under Falck's ownership, we were able to adopt new best practices in emergency medical services, learning from experiences in different countries, using these to fine-tune our own processes into a world-class service. The change in ownership now makes it possible to not only put what we learned into action, but also focus more on serving our Finnish customers," explains Managing Director Matveinen. "9Lives is doing very well, and the change in ownership won't result in any major changes to our operations."
Majority shareholder Ulfstedt believes that the new ownership will allow for a more agile service development. "9Lives is returning to its roots. The owners are the same as we had before the Falck years. Our new structure will allow us to respond more quickly and flexibly to the major changes currently happening in the social and healthcare sector."
The company will also have a new chairman of the board. Vesa Ekroos, who previously served as Managing Director and chairman of the board for Mehiläinen Oy, has been appointed as the new chairman of the board for 9Lives. He is an experienced healthcare professional, who currently serves as the chairman of the board for Kaunialan Sairaala Oy and rehabilitation hospital Kyyhkylä Oy, vice chair of the Invalidisäätiö board, and a member of the HYKSin Ltd. (HYKSin kliiniset palvelut Oy) board of directors.
Specialising in emergency medical services, 9Lives is a privately-owned Finnish company that provides municipalities, joint municipal authorities, health care organisations, hospital districts and private persons with paramedic and ambulance services.
