Looking for a permanent personal assistant? Five tips for getting started with a service voucher

Iäkäs nainen ja avustaja puistossa

Do you have a personal assistance service voucher? Would you need help with daily activities, work or studies, or leisure activities? We have compiled steps in this article to help you get started and find an assistant for your home using a service voucher.

1. Determine your eligibility for a service voucher

You can find out if you are eligible for a service voucher by calling the disability services of your own wellbeing area. If you do not have a service voucher granted by the wellbeing area, you can also receive personal assistance from us by paying for the service yourself.

2. Check what kind of help you can receive

If your wellbeing area has granted you a service voucher, you must first go through what it includes. Before the service can begin, we need your service voucher number and information about the number of hours granted.

The service voucher specifies how many hours of personal assistance you can receive. Together, we will agree on visit days, times, and tasks based on the allocated hours. If the granted number of hours is not sufficient, contact the disability services of your wellbeing area. They can add hours or supplement the service if necessary.

You can use the service voucher simultaneously with two or more service providers. However, in that case, you must ensure yourself that the granted service voucher hours are sufficient.

3. Tell us your wishes regarding the service, assistant, and location

For us at 9Lives, it is utmost important that the personal assistance we provide meets your needs and wishes. During the introductory visit, we will assess what kind of help you need and desire – and based on that, we will suggest the most suitable assistant for you. However, you get to influence the selection of the most suitable personal assistant for you and what is done during the personal assistance visits.

We have available personal assistants at all our offices nationwide. Feel free to contact us, and we will arrange an assistant you’ll be happy with.

4. Agree on getting started and the content of the visits

The purpose of personal assistance is to help a person carry out activities that they cannot manage independently due to disability or illness. A personal assistant can help with household chores, work and studies, hobbies, exercise, shopping trips, and support social life.

The assistance is always planned on a case-by-case basis according to the service voucher decision and your wishes. After you contact us, we will arrange a free introductory visit where we will go through what kind of help you need as well as your preferences regarding the timing of assistance and your personal assistant. 5. Expand assistance with additional services if needed

Personal assistance does not include nursing or medical help. If you need a nurse’s assistance, please contact our home care services. If you wish to have two or more personal assistants, that’s also possible! In that case, you just need to ensure that the available hours are sufficient for it.
